Thank you Stampin’ secret sister!

april_ss_wm1  One of the wonderful ladies in my stamping group decided to organize a secret sister group.  When you signed up for this group, you agreed to send your secret sister a handstamped item plus anything additional you want to send.   We were supposed to send out our first gift by the end of March and boy did that deadline come up faster than I think most of us expected!  I know it did for me. 🙂

Yesterday, I got home from work and had this very cute card waiting for me in my mail box.  She used the Manhattan Flower die for the BigShot to make this simple yet cute card.  And then, she included a movie pass, which with the skyrocketing movie ticket prices is very generous. She knew I liked movies, so now I just have to decide what movie to use it for.  Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks, Secret Sister!

Getting in a little stamping

lilacflower_wm  Its been a crazy week for me but I’ve finally managed to sneak away to get a quick card put together and up on the blog.   This last week, I was away in Dallas on a business trip and returned home to my Mother-in-law visiting for a week.  And while all of that is fun, I haven’t had much time to get some stamping in.  But then yesterday, I had the perfect excuse to take time out of entertaining and get creative.  My MIL was going to a wedding and didn’t want to spend $4 for a “nothing special” card from the store.  So, we were going to make a card for her to take.  So, while she was getting ready for the wedding, I started playing with some of my scraps to see what I could come up with.  In this case, I had the flowers from my crystal effects technique night, the bow from the same night (we were discussing different ways to tie bows), and then scraps from the new SAB paper – delicate dots.  I only had about 15 min to come up with a layout and put it together so it is simpler than I might have done if I had more time, but it was nice to use some of my pieces into a simple, pretty card.  Inside the card, I stamped the Heard from the Heart sentiment “wishing you happiness today and always”.

My other project I’ve started is getting my office cleaned up and turned into a craft room.  My dining room has been great but my DH would rather I get set up in a slightly less public space. 🙂  So my MIL and I went to ikea and shopped for some fun organizational pieces and I hope to make good progress on this project over the next week.  Having the pieces sitting in my house is pretty motivating for me to get it done.  I’ll share pictures when i’m done.   Hope you all are having a great week!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

vday09_2Ok, so I know this post is a little late, but better late then never, right?  I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who have been visiting and leaving me comments.  It really perks up my day to have you all stopping by and saying hello.  Especially with weeks like this one where work has just been crazy as we have been going bonkers trying to hit a deadline at the end of the week.  I ended up staying late at work on Friday just so I could have my three day weekend free of work stress.  So, this is my weekend to catch up on all my crafting.  I plan to be back on Monday with lots of fun things to show you.  Until then…

Have a fantastic weekend and a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Blast from the past cards

Yesterday, I was invited by a nearby demo to come stamp with her and a couple of her ladies in a casual afternoon of card making. (thanks, Lisa!)  I had never met her before, but I was excited to meet other stamping ladies from the area.  First off, I am so jealous of her workspace. 🙂  She has a large, long room that is all stamping, all the time in her upstairs.  Everything is perfectly put away in organized drawers, shelves, and hanging on the walls. Plus she had the coolest metal decortation on her wall that held cards. So everywhere you looked was something inspiring. I definitey need to do something like that.

I ended up making 4 cards using a mix of new and retired elements. I realized that I keep reaching for my new stuff when working on projects but that I have a lot of neat old stuff too. Just because something is retired doesn’t mean it isn’t great., right? Anyway, time for me to run to work. Happy Monday!

Finally able to post pictures

So, while away on my trip, I tried posting the pictures from last week.  Unfortunately, my internet connection was apparently not good enough to make that happen, so I wanted to get out a quick post this morning.

Like I said last week, we had a great time getting ready for the holidays by making gift packaging.  I posted most of the items we made, but I didn’t get a chance to post the final two items.

scallopedgc This bag was one I first saw my mom do and I thought it would be perfect for holding gift cards.  It is super simple to do; so I thought it would be a good addition to the class.  All you do to make it is cut a piece of 3×6.5″ cardstock, scoring at 5″.  Use the scallop punch to edge of the flap of the main cardstock. Using sticky tape, adhere a 3×5″ cello bag to the 3×5 section of cardstock.  Punch holes through the main cardstock and cello bag (one on each side) about halfway between the 5″ score line and the end of the flap – don’t punch through the flap itself.  Run ribbon from the back of the holder, through the holes, and then use to tie the flap down.

holidayboxThen, while waiting for the ladies to show, I decided I wanted to play with my new designer label punch and some hardware from the Hodgepodge Hardware kit.  So, I created a box with a band that would hold a designer label hardware piece.  Since it was based on the pizza box style boxes, it was super fast.  I just wish I had stamped the main cardstock instead of just the band.

Rescheduled! Holiday Gift Bags, Boxes, and Tags class

scallop-bag-wmSo Sunday afternoon, we were planning on having a Holiday Gift boxes, bags, and tags workshop.  However, due to some illnesses during the week we ended up doing some open craft time and rescheduling the actual class.

It looks like the new tentative class date is the evening of Tuesday, Dec 9th (same day as the retired stamp list is announced).  So, if you were interested in coming but couldn’t make it on Sunday, drop me a line and join us for the newly scheduled class!  We’ll be making this cute little  bag as one of our projects!
