Pictures from Mom and Me

What a whirlwind spring!  There have been tons of family visits, stamping events, and work deadlines.  That has kept me away from my computer as much as normal but also means I have a backlog of great things to show you!

First up, I thought I would share some of the projects we did as part of the mom & me event.  I tried to keep the cards simple with plenty of opportunity for kids of all ages to get involved.  So, I’m thinking of going back and sprucing up some of my examples now (like coloring in some of the images that I left as outlines for kids to color or leave as is) but since I want to get a post up, I’ll show you there current state. 🙂

And my SCS blogging group, sorry I’ve been away so long but I’m back and will be visiting your blogs very soon!

Here are the cards we did:

This is a photo frame we did using a CD case as the holder. All you have to do is pop the cover off of the case and then rotate the cover so it would stand up if the cd case base was on the table.  Pop the cover back on and then slide in your decorated background.  In the second picture, I didn’t have a photo printed out to put in the frame, so I put a red piece of card stock in to show you how you don’t glue down the top left corner so it can sit over your photo.  🙂  Its easy, peasy!cd_photomat_wmcd_photomat2_wm

Happy Valentine’s Day!

vday09_2Ok, so I know this post is a little late, but better late then never, right?  I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who have been visiting and leaving me comments.  It really perks up my day to have you all stopping by and saying hello.  Especially with weeks like this one where work has just been crazy as we have been going bonkers trying to hit a deadline at the end of the week.  I ended up staying late at work on Friday just so I could have my three day weekend free of work stress.  So, this is my weekend to catch up on all my crafting.  I plan to be back on Monday with lots of fun things to show you.  Until then…

Have a fantastic weekend and a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

A stamping snack to tide you over

I finished my first week on the new job and then saturday did a day trip to Seattle to hand off some stampin catalogs and then go to the geekiest of all concerts – Video Game Live.  Yes, it is a concert at one of the large broadway theaters where there was a choir and orchestra performing soundtrack and theme music to video games of the last 15 years.  It was a complete blast!  My DH and I went with a large group of friends, which made it even more fun.  So, now I’m back and have designated Sunday “crafting day” where I am going to try to make progress on some of my projects.  But until I can get them posted, I wanted to say hello and leave you with a few more swaps I received that I think are great.

Created by Michelle Canzano. Ok, so where do I start on all the neat things about this card? The new cool Cosmo fine glitter? The great use of the hostess set itty bitty buds? (that was a lot of hand cutting, but it's a great effect) Of the way she used the large heart from the Love You Much stamp set as a background image. Overall, a great card!

A non-traditional valentines’ day card

scsbc_jan As part of my SCS blogging group, each month one of the members issues a challenge to the group.  For January, we were challenged to make a Valentine’s Day card without using red, pink, or white.  What a challenge!  I had a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that you could do such a thing. 🙂 Thankfully, when I sat down to start this challenge, I pulled out my scraps and turned up this Apricot Appeal DSP piece and suddenly my creative juices started going.

There are three things I’m really happy about on this card.  First, I’m using embellishments!  I love brads and buttons and ribbon and gems, but I tend to hoard them.  I end up not using them because I’m afraid I’m going to use them up.  However, I finally had that aha moment when someone else pointed out that there are always new and cute embellishments coming out, so if use up what I have, I can always get more!  The second thing is the base cardstock – Mellow Moss.  This is one of thos colors that I always looked at and then quickly moved past.  However, this time, it was perfect and I realized that I don’t need to always avoid that color.

Finally, this is my first card that I’ve ever done stitching.  It all started because I had the bashful blue paper and thought “this needs something”.  So, I decided to go with paper piercing since I’m trying to learn when best to use it.  Unfortunately, I created the double row of piercings and hated it!  I realized that I have a box full of thread from back when I did counted cross-stich, so I figured what the heck!  I think it is a neat touch to the card and will have to try it again sometime.  I love when mistakes turn into new, even better things.

My card party cards – Love You Much and more

I just finished cleaning up my kitchen after my card party this afternoon (we stamp in the dining room since right now all my stamping stuff is on tv trays and a bookcase in there).  Today, in addition to the ladies who were stamping with me, their young daughters were with us as well (ages 4 and 10).  Now, the DH’s were in the living room “watching the children” while we stamped.  But like many guys, they got distracted by TV and video games, so the girls came in and wanted to make cards too.  Thankfully I have a HUGE pile of scrap paper and old stickers that I could never bring myself to throw out because “it’s still good, I might use it one day”. 🙂 So, I let them have at those items and some of my older stamps.  I have a feeling they might grow into crafters. 🙂

Anyway, today we made 3 cards and one magazine holder for the cards.  I was going to have us make a box or bag but decided since I was in such a groove with the holders (and they are so multi-functional) that we should do that instead.  So, I wanted to share with you what we made.  I have to admit, the cards are CASEd off of some very talented stampers on SCS.  I wasn’t in the designing mood, so I found inspiration online.  Hope you like them!

Getting back into the stamping groove

I am again on another (and last for awhile) trip, this time up to visit my parents.  My mom had an event last night and so I came up to help her get ready and be there for the event.   I have to tell you about a cool thing she did with one of the Stampin’ around wheels last night.

At her event, she had two long rectangular folding put together with a paper table cloth covering both of them.  Then, she took my snowflake wheel and, starting at one end of the tables, walked to the other end rolling a wavy pattern of snowflakes down the entire length of the tables.  It was fast and very cute, and I wouldn’t have thought about using the wheel to decorate a long banner or tablecloth!  So, just another way of using your scrapping tools.

So, now that event is done, I’m spending the week playing with some of my new stamp sets and agonizing over which inventory blowout items and retired accessories I need to get before they are gone. 🙂 Of course, I’ll be posting my samples here on my blog, so check them out and let me know what you think of the new products coming out.  In the meantime, I’ll also be keeping the retired accessory list up-to-date each day in the original post here.  Items are already starting to sell out so don’t wait to long to pick up your favorites!

So, on to my sample for today.  I decided to use another couple stamps from the Love You Much stamp set, and then had to use some of my Ridinghood Red/Very Vanilla striped grosgrain ribbon.  I just love this ribbon and hope it makes it into the new catalog!  The sentiment is from the retiring Warm Words stamp set.

lymbundleThis year Stampin’ Up is letting non-demonstrators get some sneak peek items before you can buy them from the regular catalog with the Love You Much bundle.  In this bundle, you get a brand spankin’ new stamp set, a hot off the presses set of Designer Paper, and the fantastic heart trio punch that is a perfect match for the stamp set!  And not only do you get the early preview of the products, but you get a 20% off discount! Seriously!

This bundle is available until Jan 31st, but if you order today you can combine it with the free shipping and 10% off retiring set promotion for tons of savings. 🙂 (I’m a bargin shopper so this type of compounded sale is the sort of thing I live for).  If you don’t see the bundle available online, just email or call me to place your order.

Here is a quick sample I made up.  I love using the heart trio stamp set with the punch!  Too much fun (you can see them both in the image from the flyer).
